Common questions
What do I need to run Cyclops?
A Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 15 or later. Macs without a notch, and external displays, get the same bar.
Cyclops isn’t showing on one of my displays.
Open Settings › General and choose an option for “Display on”: all displays, the built-in display, the main display or a display by name. The main display is the default. Cyclops also hides in full screen and in Mission Control, which you can change in the same place.
The dot waveform doesn’t move.
Live waveforms stay off until you allow audio capture. In Settings › Now Playing, click “Use live waveform”, press “Ask Permission”, then turn it on. macOS asks the first time the waveform captures audio. The dots also rest while music is paused or Reduce Motion is on.
Which music apps work with Now Playing?
Apple Music and Spotify, plus macOS Background Sounds. Browsers and other players aren’t shown. Controlling a player needs macOS Automation permission, which macOS asks for the first time.
My calendar events don’t appear.
Cyclops needs full access to your calendars. In Settings › Calendar and Timers, click the “Calendar” switch and press “Ask Permission”, or allow Cyclops in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Calendars. Then choose which calendars to show. Timers work without calendar access.
Nearby Wi-Fi names are missing.
macOS shares Wi-Fi names only with apps that have Location access, and Cyclops never asks on its own. Open the Multi Status card and press “Allow Wi-Fi names”. If no dialog appears, turn on Cyclops in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services. Hidden networks are never listed.
Codex or Claude usage isn’t showing.
Both are off until you turn them on in Settings › Vibe View. Codex needs the Codex app or CLI installed and signed in. For Claude, sign in for usage right there, or use Claude Code’s existing sign-in and allow Keychain access when macOS asks. If Claude can’t be read, the bar shows a short status such as “Expired” or “Sign in” instead of a number.
Super Note can’t add to Apple Notes.
Cyclops needs permission to control Notes, which macOS asks for the first time you send. If it was declined, allow it in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Automation. Super Note never rewrites a note that is locked or shared, or has attachments, lists, checklists, tables or images; it offers “New Note Instead” instead.
Dictation doesn’t work.
The first press of the microphone asks for Microphone and then Speech Recognition access. Speech is recognized only on your Mac and never sent to a server, so dictation stays off if your Mac’s language has no on-device recognition.
How do I keep the notch minimal?
In Settings › Notch › Collapsed Indicators, turn on “Show All Only on Hover”, or pick individual indicators. They appear when your pointer enters the bar. Features keep working and notifications still appear.
Volume and brightness changes don’t show in the bar.
Showing them needs Accessibility permission. Allow it during the welcome, or in Settings › Display and Sound: click “Display” or “Sound” and press “Open Settings”. The level then appears inside the bar’s waveform slot.
How do I see the welcome again?
Settings › About › “Show Welcome” replays the introduction and gesture demos without resetting your settings or permissions.
How do I start Cyclops at login, or quit it?
Turn on “Launch at login” in Settings › General. To quit, choose Quit Cyclops from the menu bar icon, or right-click the bar.
Does Cyclops collect any data?
No analytics, no account and no tracking. Cyclops goes online only for features you turn on: Codex and Claude usage, artwork and track details for Apple Music and Spotify, and travel times for calendar events. Everything else stays on your Mac.
